Sushi has a reputation for running up a check fast. That's exactly why the hand roll at Lin's Poke & Sushi is such a find: it's five dollars, and it isn't small.
"What makes this item beloved by almost everybody is that it's typically a really price-friendly item," says Alex Regules, rolling one behind the counter at St. Roch Market. "Here in the market, I charge five dollars for a hand roll, and as you can see, it's a really good size."
Each hand roll starts with a generous base of sushi rice, sesame seeds, and fried onions, then your choice of protein. The one Alex made for us: salmon, cucumber for texture, and avocado, all wrapped in crisp nori.
The hand roll lives primarily on Lin's delivery menu, but don't let that stop you. "You ask me, I can make it. That's no problem," Alex says.
The hand roll is just the entry point. Lin's turns out a full lineup of specialty rolls draped in fresh fish and finished with fish roe, scallions, sesame, and house sauces, the kind of plates that look like they came out of a much more expensive room. Some afternoons you can catch the whole spread lined up plate after plate down the marble counter.
You'll find Lin's Poke & Sushi inside St. Roch Market at 2381 St. Claude Ave, with build-your-own poke bowls, sushiritos, and the full roll menu available daily.
