The Cajun Dirty Martini: Sean's Golden, Spicy Pour

← Back to News

Forget the standard dirty martini. Sean "Doeboy" Verrett just dropped a new one behind the bar at Roch's Reprieve, and it comes out the color of a golden sunset.

And despite the name, there's no crab boil in it. The "Cajun" comes entirely from what Sean shakes into the glass.

What Sean actually pours is cucumber vodka shaken with a savory, fiery blend of okra juice, olive juice, and spicy bean juice, then a heavy splash of Louisiana hot sauce. He shakes it hard and strains it into a coupe. The result glows golden, garnished with pickled okra and olives, with just the right amount of kick.

The Cajun Dirty Martini. Cucumber vodka, okra juice, olive juice, spicy bean juice, and Louisiana hot sauce, strained golden.

"I used the okra juice, olive juice, and spicy bean juice, and I added some of this hot sauce to it, and strained it," Sean says. "It came out perfect."

He's not wrong. Give it a shake, watch that golden color come up, and you've got a dirty martini that drinks like New Orleans. Briny, a little vegetal from the okra and beans, and warm on the back end from the hot sauce. It's the cocktail you didn't know you wanted until it's sitting in front of you.

This is the same bartender behind The Shoreline, the Mint Espresso Martini, and The Verrett. The man does not pour a boring drink.

And there's no better time to try it than happy hour. Monday through Friday, 3 to 5 p.m., we've got the best weekday deal on St. Claude Ave: $1 oysters from Salted Pearl Oyster Bar, $4 beers, $7 house wines, and the bartender's cocktail of the day. Whether you're winding down after work or fueling up before you explore the Marigny and Bywater, your seat's waiting under our historic 150-year-old roof.

Come sit at the bar at 2381 St. Claude Ave. Ask Sean for the Cajun Dirty Martini. Tell him Kevin didn't put any crab boil in it.
